A Tribute to Stu Milus

This page is a tribute to my late husband, Stu Milus.

Stu was the embodiment of selflessness and sacrifice. He gave everything so I could pursue a dream.

When I said I wanted to go to law school, Stu didn’t just believe in me—he made it possible. He took another job. We sold our house. He stood by me while I studied for the LSAT and walked beside me through every obstacle. He believed in me—even when I didn’t believe in myself.

When an unscrupulous person tried to use the legal system to block my future, Stu fought for me. He spent tens of thousands of dollars and gave up his own peace of mind to protect mine. I survived and won that legal war because of Stu. I went to law school because of Stu.

And then—halfway through law school—he was taken from me.

A senseless, life-shattering collision took him from this earth and left me a single mother, far from family, finishing law school with a broken heart. I had already survived one battle just to begin another, but nothing prepared me for what came next: the lifelong weight of grief and the absence of the one person who made it all possible.

I became a lawyer because of Stewart Milus.

Every client I help—every call I take, every motion I write, every life I support through this work—has Stu’s fingerprints on it. He is the reason I finished law school. He is the reason I do this work today. His love and sacrifice are woven into everything I do. One reason I help families prepare for loss is because I know, firsthand, the challenges of being left behind.

So today, help me pay forward Stu’s virtuous legacy by doing something kind for someone in need, as Stu did so effortlessly. And, never ever forget to tell those you love that they are, indeed, loved. Do it today! For you never know what tomorrow may bring.
